A study in the June issue of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, published by Elsevier, demonstrates that the Hepascore(TM) liver fibrosis blood-serum test panel may help physicians more accurately diagnose and stage liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C (HCV), potentially alleviating the need for liver biopsy, the standard of care for staging fibrosis, in a particular subset of patients. Celera Presents Data Replicating Its Immunodiagnostic Assay To Detect Lung Cancer From Blood Serum
Celera Corporation (NASDAQ:CRA) announced yesterday the presentation of data replicating its novel mass spectrometry-based approach to identify and validate circulating protein biomarkers that detect non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in an independent cohort of individuals with lung cancer. This study was performed in collaboration with scientists at NYU Langone Medical Center, NY. A key outcome of the study was the validation of a 9 biomarker immunoassay on a cohort of samples that is enriched for stage I disease, important for screening of early stage disease. The assay detected lung cancer with 92% sensitivity at 93% specificity. The panel also accurately distinguished malignant cases from benign lung disease. The data is being presented at the 13th World Conference on Lung Cancer as part of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) in San Francisco, CA.

Wanted - PCTs To Get Involved In Groundbreaking User Involvement Project, UK

Diabetes UK and NHS Diabetes have joined forces to deliver an innovative project that will support three primary care trusts (PCTs) in England to develop effective user involvement approaches in diabetes care. The charity is now seeking three organisations to become our local partners. About the project The "User involvement in local diabetes care" project will develop partnerships locally to create and support structured, systematic and sustainable user involvement in all aspects of diabetes care. User involvement allows people living with diabetes to influence the decisions taken about the services the NHS provides. These partnerships will provide support tailored to local need. In the later stages the project will share learning and good practice examples with services across the UK.
